MISSION OBJECTIVES

THE VOLUMETRIC STANDARD

You see what others can't. As a Radiographer, you harness the power of Iridium-192 or X-Ray tubes to capture the internal structure of critical assets. Whether you are crawling a pipeline in the mud or shooting precision castings in a bunker, your film provides the permanent record of quality. You balance high-production speed with the absolute rigidity of radiation safety.

  • Calculate exposure times based on source strength (Curies), material thickness, and film speed.
  • Establish restricted areas with physical barricades and verify boundaries with a calibrated survey meter.
  • Process radiographic film in darkroom environments controlling temperature and development time.
  • Interpret developed radiographs to identify slag, porosity, and lack of fusion per code acceptance criteria..

PERSONNEL

STOP COOKING IN THE DARKROOM.

  • CREW DYNAMICS Don't get stuck with a "passenger." Find a rig where the partner pulls their weight and knows the routine.
  • PROJECT TYPE Choose your grind. Select from high-speed Pipeline production (cranking) or precision Plant maintenance work.
  • SAFETY CULTURE Your dose matters. Target companies that actually respect the barricade tape and maintain their equipment.
  • FILM vs. DIGITAL Pick your medium. Stick to the art of wet film processing or transition to CRT/DR digital acquisition.

RECRUITMENT

REDUCE RESHOOT RATES.

  • SHOT PRODUCTION Identify techs capable of high-volume weld counts per shift without sacrificing image quality.
  • DENSITY CONTROL Hire technicians who understand the H&D curve and hit the target density range on the first shot.
  • CODE PROFICIENCY Target Level IIs who know the specific acceptance criteria for ASME Sec V, VIII, or API 1104.
  • SAFETY RECORDS Minimize liability. Screen for candidates with clean safety histories and valid state/federal cards.
