VISUAL TESTING
(VT) JOBS.
The primary method. Verify surface quality, weld profile, and dimensional compliance before any other NDT method is applied.
MISSION OBJECTIVES
THE DIMENSIONAL VERIFIER
100% of inspections start here. As a Visual Testing Specialist, you are the most cost-effective tool in the QA arsenal. You don't just "look" at the part; you measure it. Whether you are using a videoscope to inspect the internal roots of high-purity piping or swinging a Hi-Lo gauge on a pipeline tie-in, your scrutiny prevents expensive rework downstream.
- Verify joint preparation, bevel angle, and fit-up gap alignment prior to welding.
- Measure final weld profile including reinforcement height, fillet leg length, and throat dimension.
- Identify surface discontinuities like porosity, undercut, overlap, and arc strikes per code criteria.
- Execute Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) using borescopes, videoscopes, and push cameras for limited access areas.
Latest Visual Testing Opportunities
PERSONNEL
STOP GUESSING, START MEASURING.
- RVI SPECIALTY Don't just walk the line. Find high-tech roles specializing in Borescope/Videoscope inspections for turbines and exchangers.
- TOOL MASTERY Use your kit. Target jobs that require proficiency with V-WAC, Bridge Cam, and Fillet gauges rather than just a flashlight.
- CODE KNOWLEDGE Know the limits. Find roles that respect your ability to cite the specific acceptance criteria (ASME/API) for a reject.
- CLEAN ENVIRONMENT Choose your setting. Select precision "Clean Room" orbital welding inspections over heavy industrial field work.
RECRUITMENT
REDUCE REWORK COSTS.
- VISION ACUITY Ensure capability. Access technicians with current, documented Jaeger J-1 and Color Contrast eye exams.
- DOCUMENTATION Get proof. Hire Level IIs who provide photo-documented reports with clear scale references for every indication.
- PROCESS CONTROL Catch it early. Find inspectors who aren't afraid to stop the work at the fit-up stage if the gap is out of tolerance.
- VIDEOSCOPE SKILLS Navigate the bend. Target specialists experienced with Waygate/Olympus videoscopes for internal pipe assessment.
