MISSION OBJECTIVES
THE A-SCAN INTERPRETER
You are the eyes inside the steel. As a UT Technician, you don't just read a digital thickness number; you interpret the waveform. Whether you are mapping corrosion on an aging pipeline or running a 70-degree probe on a structural column, your ability to distinguish between geometry and an actual defect is the difference between a safe asset and a failure.
- Calibrate flaw detectors using IIW or localized reference blocks to establish sensitivity and linearity.
- Perform Straight Beam (0-degree) examinations to identify lamination, erosion, and remaining wall thickness.
- Execute Angle Beam (Shear Wave) inspections on welds to detect lack of fusion, cracks, and slag inclusions.
- Interpret A-Scan signals to determine defect depth, length, and characterization per code criteria.

- GEOMETRY LOGIC Find Level IIs who understand skip distance and leg length to ensure 100% volumetric coverage of the weld.
